Elution behavior of unsaponifiable lipids with various capillary electrochromatographic stationary phases.

Capillary electrochromatographic (CEC) separations of unsaponifiable lipids, tocopherols (T), tocotrienols (T3), and plant sterols were studied under various conditions. Investigated stationary phases include pentafluorophenylsilica (PFPS), triacontylsilica (TCS), and octadecylsilica (ODS) phases. A baseline separation of four sterols (ergosterol, lanosterol, sitosterol and stigmasterol) on ODS...

Nature of unsaponifiable lipids of a Mycoplasma strain grown with isopentenyl pyrophosphate as a substitute for sterol.

Mycoplasma sp., strain J, which is unable to convert mevalonic acid to isopentenyl pyrophosphate (IPP) will grow with IPP as a substitute for sterol. (14)C-labeled IPP is incorporated into its unsaponifiable lipid. This unsaponifiable lipid was separated into three (14)C-labeled fractions, all of which possess spectral and chromatographic characteristics of polyterpenes.

Nonsteroidal components of the unsaponifiable fraction of human liver.

In 1952 Penn (21) described the preparation of an unsaponifiable fraction of liver from cancerbearing patients which gave a serological reaction with sera of cancerous individuals, but usually not with normal serum or serum from persons with noncancerous diseases (12). The difficulty of ob taining sufficient stable test material for extensive cancer screening tests led to the development of a s...
